At Jordano’s, we’re continually searching for the best new trends — we scour new local restaurants and taste test the finest products on the market. Overall, we found healthier, more convenient, and more eye-catching foods are what’s gaining traction. Here’s a few that you will start to see on your dinner menus - it’s shaping up to be a delicious year.

CHARCOAL
The use of charcoal outside of the fire pit has been on the rise, mainly being used for beauty products. Now, we’re even adding charcoal into our diets! The unusual ingredient can be found in bread recipes, as a natural food dye for fresh pressed juices and ice creams, and is a common ingredient in Asian desserts. To experiment with charcoal, mix it with oil and toss your veggies into the combination on the stovetop, blend into a powder and use as a sprinkle. If you dare to be brave, try your hand at charcoal pancakes with a lemon curd topping.

SWEET POTATO
Part of the morning glory family, sweet potatoes are a versatile root vegetable that can be used as a healthier option for some of your favorite classic meals – including toast! Sweet potatoes are gluten-free, high in fiber, and packed with micronutrients. To get the full toast effect, slice the sweet potato just like you would a piece of bread, and don’t be shy with the toaster! This delicious orange veggie can be topped with anything your imagination can come up with. Try guacamole and bacon bits for an afternoon BBQ, Nutella and blueberries or peanut butter and bananas for a sweet treat, and even avocado and eggs for a healthy breakfast.

JACKFRUIT
Hailing from tropical climates, the jackfruit has earned the title of “miracle fruit” due to its extensive health benefits and low maintenance. The jackfruit, which can grow up to 100 pounds, has hundreds of seeds rich in iron, calcium, protein, potassium, and fiber. The multifaceted fruit can be served as a meat substitute - it tastes like pulled pork when cooked. Try also adding to stir fry, ice cream, juices and jams. Due to its loaded nutrition, it’s even being tasked to help save the world from hunger. Just a small portion of the jackfruit can sustain a person for about half a day.

PURPLE POWER FOODS
Purple foods – they’re full of antioxidants, and add some excitement to your meal! Acai, purple cauliflower, purple asparagus, black rice, and purple corn – these are just a few healthy options that add more purple to your diet. Purple sweet potatoes are high in antioxidants and taste just as great as their orange relative. Acai berries benefit heart health and provide cardio-protective benefits. Purple asparagus, rich in Vitamins A, B, C, and K is a great supplement to improve hair, nail, skin growth and the immune system, as well as it can be used as a natural laxative.
